πŸ“ Abstract
This study compares how the major stock indices of India (Nifty 50, BSE Sensex) and the United States (S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average) behaved between 2015 and 2025, a decade marked by events such as Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic and shifting monetary policies. The project uses daily secondary data and a quantitative approach to examine four core aspects: price volatility, co-movement, market stability and risk-adjusted performance. Volatility is measured through standard deviation, coefficient of variation and GARCH-type models, while correlation and time-varying techniques are used to understand how closely Indian and US indices move together in normal and crisis periods. Stability is assessed using skewness, kurtosis and maximum drawdown, and volatility clustering is tested through ARCH/GARCH diagnostics. Finally, Sharpe ratios are calculated to see whether the higher risk in Indian markets is matched by higher returns when compared with US markets. The findings aim to give investors, portfolio managers and policymakers a clearer, more practical view of diversification opportunities and the true risk–return trade-off between an emerging and a developed equity market in the post-pandemic era.
